Hutchison: The decisive choice to challenge Cantwell
One week after a primary which saw 28 challengers to the incumbent, Susan Hutchison is the decisive winner and clear choice of the voters to face the incumbent in the fall. With most of the votes counted, no other challenger received even 1/10th of of Hutchison’s vote total.
“I’m honored that the voters made their way through a long list of candidates and 15 pages of voter statements to choose me as the one person who can challenge Maria Cantwell in the fall," said Hutchison. "We are gathering Republicans, independents, and Democrats disenchanted with their sitting Senator, and we will work hard together to win in November.”
Despite Maria Cantwell's total name recognition, she failed to reach 50% in 27 of the state's 39 counties. After three terms as a U.S. Senator, with a do-nothing record lacking in achievement, voters are looking for a change. Primary results show that Cantwell, despite her near total name recognition and 18 years as a U.S. Senator is the most vulnerable of all Democrat incumbents running for Federal office in our state.
“As I’ve traveled across the state for this campaign, people are passionate about change," Hutchison notes. "Surely, Cantwell’s campaign is worried that winning King County will not be enough to hold her seat.”
Data analysis shows that the Democrat base turned out at 5% greater numbers than Republicans, but that is almost certain to change significantly in the General Election in November.
Hutchison is confident: “Our side will show up in force in November because they know what’s at stake at every level. Is the opposition’s hatred for the President greater than our love for our state and country? Absolutely not. I predict we will win this race in November.”
