Susan Hutchison is the right person at the right time
to be the next Senator from Washington State.

Susan scares Seattle’s left-wing liberals and inspires the rest of us.  She’s an independent woman; hardworking, successful, and courageous as she fights against the “Seattle agenda” that is harming our great state in so many ways.

She is not a career politician like her opponent, but her effective leadership as Chairman of the state GOP built the strongest grassroots team in decades for winning elections and improving the lives of all citizens.

Unlike her opponent,
she has successfully fought on the side of taxpayers against a state income tax and other unfair taxes that Seattle’s radical left decides are good for us.  And as a wife and mom she’s been a champion for military families, children’s health, and public schools that put kids first.
Personal History
Susan’s ties to our state actually began before she was born, when her German and Norwegian immigrant grandparents settled in Tacoma.

While she moved a lot as a military daughter and wife, Susan and her husband Andy returned to the Puget Sound area as soon as they finished Marine Corps active duty.

They have lived in the same Seattle neighborhood for nearly 40 years.

Broadcasting
Susan is best known in Western Washington as a distinguished TV news journalist at the CBS station KIRO-TV, where she was a pioneer for women in the industry.  Recognized as a caring viewer advocate for 20 years, she anchored the highest rated newscasts in Seattle, earning five Emmys for producing, writing, and reporting news and documentaries.
Leadership
In 2009, Susan ran for King County Executive placing first in the Primary.  While the union-funded candidate prevailed, Susan is credited with inspiring positive changes by calling for much needed fiscal accountability and responsiveness to the needs of all citizens.

Susan was tapped by innovative software genius Charles Simonyi of Microsoft Word and Excel to
lead his charitable foundation for a decade.  Through the effective investment of the foundation’s resources, she had a lasting impact on education, arts and sciences in the Puget Sound region and around the world.

Having worked in China, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, Central Europe and Southeast Asia, Susan has
extensive first-hand knowledge of key regions of the world--vital preparation for the trade and foreign policy issues that she will face as U.S. Senator.

Republicans and Democrats have recognized Susan’s skills...
In almost 5 years at the Washington State Republican Party, Susan turned around a struggling party that was financially strapped and divided into factions.  Her leadership brought people together to fight for the well-being of all Washingtonians. The state committee representing all 39 counties honored her as first-ever “Chairman Emeritus” when she stepped down in February 2018.

Republicans and Democrats have recognized Susan’s skills.  President George W. Bush appointed her to the board of the Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington D.C.  Governor Gary Locke appointed her to work on his A+ Commission on Education.  And King County Executive Ron Sims appointed Susan to the 10-member King County Independent Task Force on Elections which provided recommendations to the county and state to improve the fairness and accuracy of elections following the 2004 Dino Rossi gubernatorial election.

Among the many organizations Susan has served as a volunteer leader are: Seattle Colleges Advisory Council; Salvation Army NW; Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation; Young Life International, as immediate past Chairman; Seattle Symphony, as Chairman; and trustee at Seattle Art Museum and Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
Family
Susan is the mother, wife and daughter of military officers and cares deeply about the men and women who serve in the armed forces.  She understands what it takes to have “peace through strength”.

When her husband was called up for the 2003 Iraq War, she worked with the Red Cross and the Marine Corps to help military families.  She set up a scholarship to fund college for sons and daughters of fallen Marines.

Susan has been married 42 years to her high school sweetheart, Andy, a retired USMC Reserve Colonel, an executive at Boeing for more than 30 years and now VP of a medical device firm.
