Hutchison challenges Cantwell to debate in all 10 Congressional Districts
Susan Hutchison invites her opponent Maria Cantwell to make history with a “…real conversation about our state and nation.”
Susan Hutchison, the Republican U.S. Senate nominee, invites incumbent Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell to make history with a series of ten debates across our state, one for each Congressional District.
SPOKANE, WA -- Susan Hutchison extends an invitation to her opponent Maria Cantwell to join her in embracing Washington State’s rich civic-minded traditions, “Today I invite my opponent Maria Cantwell to be part of a U.S. Senate campaign that our state deserves, a campaign built around 10 debates--one in each of our state’s Congressional Districts.”
“With this plan, citizens from the biggest cities to the smallest towns will be guaranteed something that they’ve been denied for years, the opportunity to see their U.S. Senate candidates up close and personal, discussing both the national and local issues that are important to them,” said Hutchison.
“We have a truly historic opportunity to offer voters so much more than 30 second ads paid for by special interest groups. This election doesn’t have to be about outside money. If Senator Cantwell accepts, we can offer voters a real conversation about our state and nation.”
The Hutchison campaign offers to work with the Cantwell Campaign to arrange each debate and determine debate rules. The locations of the debates will be determined collaboratively, as will be the formats and media coverage. All debates will use the technology of live-streaming to be available to as many people as possible.
These debates will not conflict with the Debate Commission’s offer to host debates in Spokane and Tacoma on Saturday nights in the fall. Susan Hutchison has enthusiastically accepted the Commission’s invitation but the Cantwell campaign has only confirmed participation in one--in Tacoma.
“By intentionally focusing on our many diverse communities throughout the state that are usually overlooked in statewide campaigns, we will bring the U.S. Senate race to the people. Voters have a right to know each candidate’s vision for our future.”
